Vasakhi, as well as being the first month of the Sikh year, is a time to remember when Guru Gobind Singh Ji began the Khalsa. Vasakhi Day was organised in 1699 by the Tenth Sikh Guru, Guru Gobind Singh ji. We celebrate the day by performing joyful bhangra and gidda. People wake up early to prepare for the day.

In Punjab many people also take a bath in the holy river to be especially clean for Vasakhi. After getting ready people go to their nearby gurdwara and take part in the special ardas. Bhangra and gidda performances make the nagar keertan joyous and colourful.
